It all started in1969, when the founders of Uncle Dan's Butchery, Hani and her husband, Franz Gmeiner, embarked on a courageous journey from Germany to South Africa.

With little to no money, they saw a new beginning. Franz, the grandfather of the current owner, worked tirelessly for low wages in South Africa. Through sheer determination and hard work, they saved enough to start a small butchery, which they lovingly named

Uncle Dan's Butchery.

Their dedication paid off, and as the business began to flourish, they bought a house right next to the butchery. They worked day and night, building a loyal customer base and establishing the butchery as a beloved community staple.

After Franz Gmeiner passed away, their daughter Hanni Scheepers and her husband David Scheepers took over the business. They expanded Uncle Dan's Butchery even further, purchasing a farm to source their own animal stock, ensuring the highest quality meats for their customers. They poured their hearts into growing the business, but tragically, Hanni faced a battle with cancer and sadly passed away a few months after her diagnosis.

Today, the legacy of Uncle Dan's Butchery lives on through their son, Schalk David Scheepers. Schalk, who started working at the butchery at the tender age of 12, has over 25 years of experience as an expert blockman. Under his leadership, the butchery has continued to thrive, with Schalk making significant enhancements such as rebranding the logo, expanding the physical store, and building a website to reach even more customers.
